TCC is the heart of the Schooler Institute. Co-authored by Dr. David and Jayne Schooler, TCC is based on the evidence-based work of trauma experts such as Dr. Bruce Perry, Dr. Daniel Siegal, Dr. Kurt Thompson, Dr. Karyn Purvis, and others.  For over 40 years, the Schoolers have studied, researched, and trained workshops on trauma and other child and family issues. TCC, a nine-module trauma training curriculum, is the culmination of that work.

TCC explores the impact of trauma throughout life, looks at attachment and sensory issues, and offers strategies to promote connection and healing to those who live with or who work with kids from hard places. The Schooler Institute has partnered with Trauma-Free World (www.traumafreeworld.org) to bring this training to the Dayton community and beyond.

TBRI is a holistic, attachment-based, and trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. Created by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross, TBRI uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. TBRI is based on years of attachment, trauma, and neuroscience research, but the intervention has grown out of hands-on work with children who have experienced trauma.

Vulnerable children, or children from “hard places,” have changes in their bodies, brains, behaviors, and belief systems. While a variety of parenting strategies may be successful in typical circumstances, children from hard places need caregiving that meets their unique needs and addresses the whole child.

Although TBRI was designed for children who have experienced some type of abuse, neglect, and/or trauma, it has proven to be effective with all children. TBRI offers practical tools for parents and caregivers to help those in their care reach their highest potential.

This training is conducted by our experienced TBRI Practitioners.

FAMILIES

At the Schooler Institute, we believe all children are precious and deserve to feel safe and loved.

We recognize that being a parent isn’t always easy, especially when a child has experienced an unsafe living environment, poverty, family separation, significant medical intervention, or other traumatic challenges.

Whether you’re caring for children through foster care, kinship, or adoption, or children born to you, the Schooler Institute is here for you!  We provide the most relevant trauma-informed training programs available to help you reach the heart of your child.

ORGANIZATIONS

A supportive community provides meaningful influence in the lives of children. Teachers, mentors, children’s pastors, and other community members whose roles involve the well-being of young people are reaching children who come from a variety of backgrounds. In your work, you may, at times, feel unprepared to handle difficult behaviors in a positive way.

Our Schooler Institute trainers equip organizations and agencies that serve children in their communities by providing ongoing trauma-informed training and resources that can be customized to meet the needs of your organization.  We won’t just train you.  We’ll provide follow up support as you make the transformation to become a trauma-informed organization.
